Workshop Basrah


A workshop was held from May 1 to 5, 2010 in Basrah organized in an excellent manner by the University of Basrah. Particpants from the universities of Baghdad, Basrah, Erbil, Diyala, and Sulaimania and the Geological Survey of Iraq met with three participants from TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany.

Durig the first day the participants visited the famous marshes of Euphrate and Tigres River.  2010-06-25 

 

Major results from the work shop in Basrah, May 2010 are the further development of the syllabus of the two joint master progarmms which are schedulded to start at the end of 2011. Furthermore information were exchanged with respect to to capacity building measures in 2010 and 2011. Joint research projects were already started in 2010, but new ideas about joint research project were created. These new ideas can be seen here as pdf. Such projects can be on the level of a M.Sc or PhD thesis without additional funding (exept a sholarshipt), research funding by third parties with one ore more scientists or bigger projects (integrated research projects) with several interdisciplinary working groups of scientists. All participants agreed that Basrah is a safe place to meet.

Some time could be spent for a short visit of the College of Engineering and Marine Research Center of Basrah Uni.

 

 A strong interest in buidling a Scientific Diving Group at Basrah was signalized by the Marien Research Center. Because a CMAS Scientific Diving Center is established at TU Bergakademie Freiberg a cooperation in this field between Basrah Marine Research Center and the CMAS Scientific Diving Center at TU Bargakademie Freiberg  was agreed.

On the last day a boat trip to the Shat El-Arab on one of the two research vessels of the Marine Reserach Center was an amazing experience for all guest and a good opportunity to discuss further progress in small groups.

 Finally a meeting was held in the evening of Mai 4th to summarize the major results of the workshop. All participants agreed that the meeting was great step forward and that the cooperation is on a good track.
