Achievements 2013

(Summer school /July 29 – Aug.10)

A summer school took place in Freiberg - Germany organized by TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Supported by Beak Consultants GmbH, 30 participants have been attended 16 from different Iraqi universities and institutes and 14 students from TU.Bergakademie Freiberg. The main topics were: 3D with Petrel software application, Sustainable Petroleum Geology, Analytical techniques for water chemistry, Flow Modeling and Transport reaction in groundwater, Water treatment and Waste treatment with field trip, Data evaluation by means of GIS and remote sensing, Workshop Isotopes course.

(Capacity building / July  – Sep.2013)

9 participants Capacity Building from Baghdad University and Salahaldden University attended visited TU.Bergakademie Freiberg – Hydrogeology institute for intensive courses in Geochemistry and Hydrogeology.

Also TUB. Freiberg conducted a special training for scientific diving, the participant Mr. Abdullah Al-Nasser from Basrah Uni. – Marine Science Center has joined the German scientific diving Group at TUB. Freiberg and complete the fundamental requirements to be scientific diver.

After more than 3 years of successful partnership several MoUs have been renewed with all of our partners: Iraqi Geological survey - GEOSURV, Marine Science center – university of Basrah, University of Baghdad – College of Science, University of Salahaddin – College of Science Erbil.

A new MoU has been signed with University of Al-Muthanna, The delegation were included the Rector of Al-Muthanna University Prof.Dr. Hasan Al-Ghanimi, Dean Prof.Dr. Hussein Al-Dhalemi and Head of Scientific affairs office Prof.Dr.Haider Al-Pelibsh. The delegation met the Dean of Faculty of Geosciences, Geoengineering and Mining at TU.Bergakademie Freiberg Prof. Dr. Carsten Drebenstedt and the Head of Geology department Prof.Dr.Broder Merkel. Where several promising scientific cooperation have been discussed. The meeting ends with signing MoU on faculty level.

(Scientific Diving Unite / University of Basrah - Marine Science Center)

 Five steps have been scheduled and successfully accomplished for 2013 as following:


Build up the 2nd group to be part from Scientific Diving unite, the group has been chosen after Interviews, Basic test swimming ability, Practical training pool and theory test as approach for scientific diving. Two Gulf expeditions have been organized in May and October to discover the coral reef, getting samples and train the scientific staff of Marine Science Center – Diving unite.

Two expeditions have been organized in May and October to discover Sawa Lake located nearby Al-Muthanna province to start new joint project between TU.Bergakademie Freiberg, MSC – University of Basrah and University of Al-Muthanna.
